WP 5000 Water Knowledge and Livelihoods

Objectives

 

Within WISDOM the Work Package 5000 deals with the socio-economic impact of water and resource management in the region. In the work package 5000 methodologies and conceptual frameworks will be developed and adapted to be used to capture vulnerability of people, the economy and environment in its multi-faceted nature. A continuative objective is to understand the diversity of livelihoods and subsistence strategies and how they are shaped by both, environmental and demographic changes and the ongoing political and institutional transformation process. Main objectives include:

 

  • Add the human dimension to activities linked to hazard assessment
  • Increase the understanding of local water related information systems
  • Incorporate vulnerability assessment to capture water-related risks
  • Capture the different types of water-related livelihoods in the context of major ongoing societal changes

 

It is structured in four Tasks with following Activities:

 

Task 5100: Knowledge Systems at the Local Level (ZEF)

 

  • 5110 Identification of different knowledge systems according to different types of water use
  • 5120 Analysis of the dynamics of local knowledge systems
  • 5130 Assessment of water use, water needs and water rights at the local level

 

Task 5200: Vulnerability Assessment (UNU-EHS)

 

  • 5210 Network set-up and collection of existing data
  • 5220 Selection of case study areas and of preliminary indicators
  • 5230 Household surveys and indicator development
  • 5230 5240 Integration into information system

 

Task 5300: Livelihoods (ZEF)

 

  • 5310 Inventory of existing socio-economic data
  • 5320 Socio-economic survey to fill the gaps
  • 5330 Assessment of water related aspects influencing livelihood strategies

 

Task 5400: Integration into WP3000
